Affiliated Groups

In addition to the various groups organised and run by our churches, a number of other organisations are affiliated to us as follows:

Finchampstead’s Handbells Group was formed in September 2005 and meets in the St James’ Church Centre. It is our aim to promote handbell ringing to all ages. Throughout the year we entertain the elderly in care homes and youngsters in schools, and have demonstrated the art of ringing to brownies, cubs, and pre-school groups. We ring a variety of music, specially adapted for handbells; from nursery rhymes, to hymns, classics and modern popular music.Progression for the individual can be to join SERBO (the South East Regional Bell Orchestra), or as a team the opportunity to play, for example, at the Festival Service, Guildford Cathedral. The team takes part in, and hosts, massed rallies with handbell ringers from around the South East area in particular. Please visit our website at www.finchampstead-handbells.co.uk

St James’ provides a meeting space in the Church Centre free of charge for the Breastfeeding Network, a very worthwhile organisation run by some members of the congregation. Many women feel a sense of isolation and lack of support in the early postnatal days. This may be due to a combination of a reduction in NHS postnatal care, social expectations of self-reliance and that many do not have the benefit of an extended family locally. The Breastfeeding Centre aims to help local women breastfeed for as long as they wish by providing sustained support, education and specialist help should they face difficulties. Women visit us for practical help and information around feeding their babies and also for social/emotional support. You are not alone. Come free for a chance to socialise and share experiences with other breastfeeding mums.
