Musical Supper thanks

Thank you to all who supported the St. David’s Day Musical Supper – and especially to all our choristers who entertained us so beautifully.

With lots of lovely comments about how enjoyable the evening was, all the hard work was well worth the effort as we raised £1,000 for church funds.

Parish inclusivity policy

‘To give the best possible welcome to all-comers’   Vision Statement – Parish of Finchampstead & California

A recent letter from a number of ‘concerned Anglicans’ to the four bishops of the Diocese on the issue of human sexuality could be interpreted as having been sent with the approval of the parish of Finchampstead and California.  We, the Rector and Church Wardens of the parish, would like to point out that this is not the case.

In line with our vision statement, quoted above, we would like to reaffirm our support for the tone and pastoral sensitivity of our Bishops’ ‘Ad Clerum – Clothed in Love’ last October.

We believe that as a diverse parish, embracing and seeking to hold together people with differing churchmanships and theologies, it is important that we restate our policy of inclusivity, respect and welcome to all-comers.

St James’ Church Cleaning

We would very much welcome some more help in keeping our lovely church clean.

Can you spare an hour every few weeks to help please? If so we would love to hear from you. Please contact Parish Office on 0118 9730133.

Important Announcement about St James Church

On Thursday 11th Oct, an approx. 1 foot long piece of timber frame attached to the wall above the nave in St James’ came detached and fell, causing damage to the framework. As a result, we have had to make the decision to make St James Church out of bounds until further notice.

We do not yet know the cause as this is under investigation by professionals. We will be having this weekend and next week’s services at St James’ in the church hall/back rooms.

Once we know more information we will be able to give a timescale as to how long before we will be able to return to normal.

The safety of our congregation is of the utmost importance to us. We thank you for bearing with us during this time. We will post further updates on our website and social media pages once we have them.

A Huge Thank You to everyone who came and helped the Green Team Working Party in the Lost Liddell Gardens last Saturday.

A lot was achieved, with special thanks to ‘Zip the Chips’.

Location Location Location

We’ve made a few changes to our Facebook pages over the past couple of weeks to address a couple of issues people have been having with how our notices and updates get distributed. As our parish has come together from three separate church communities with their own identity we have always kept separate social media pages for each, but as a lot of our notices are useful to all three churches we’ve distributed our updates to all three.

For the increasing numbers of church members who have ‘liked’ more than one of the parish pages that has resulted in a lot of duplication of notices.

What we have done now is to set up a separate Parish of Finchampstead and California page and convert each of the individual church pages to location pages. Facebook limitations mean that we have had to rename the existing pages, so they are now Parish of Finchampstead and California (St James), Parish of Finchampstead and California (St Mary and St John), and Parish of Finchampstead and California (St Eligius).

I future all the notices will be posted to the parish page, and will also appear on each location page as parish notices – what this should mean is that whatever combination of pages you have liked, you should only see the notices once in your news feed rather than having duplicates from the different churches.

You don’t need to do anything, but if you can ‘like’ our new Parish Page that would be much appreciated. We also have reviews enabled on the location pages, so if you’ve had a great experience at one of our churches, please do give us a good review.

Patronal Festival thanks

A BIG THANK YOU!

Our Flower and Patronal Festival last weekend was magnificent, thank you to everyone who helped in so many different ways. I think we all agree that Denise and her flower team excelled themselves, the displays depicting “Caring for our Beautiful World” were just amazing and so imaginative. A big thank you to our very talented choir and William our organist, who entertained us with a wonderful concert on Saturday evening. Thanks to Hugh and the tower team for their sterling work looking after everyone in the tower on Sunday afternoon.

We really do appreciate and thank you all for your help, to the lovely people who baked cakes, donated items, helped with refreshments, looked after the stalls and games, put up the gazebos, to everyone who came along and supported the weekend, it was a great team effort.

We look forward to seeing you at some of our other events, the next one being our Supper and Quiz evening on 13th October, put a note in your diaries.

Last but certainly not least, we are delighted to say that all the efforts of the weekend raised over £3,000 – what an amazing amount!

We hope you all have a happy and restful summer, from SJ Social and Fundraising Committee
