Baptism Team thanks

Thanks to the dedication and hard work from our baptism visitors, the team raised over £300 in verger donations in 2017.

50% of the donations are retained for church funds, and the other 50% is donated to a local charity of the team’s choice.  We are pleased to announce the Baptism Team has recently been able to make a donation of £150 to Camp Mohawk, a multi-functional day centre for children with special needs and their families in Berkshire.

Please see the Baptism Noticeboard in SJCC if you are interested in a baptism, or if you would like to volunteer as a baptism visitor.

Information Pack for APCM – Mon 23rd April

The Annual Parochial Church Meeting will take place on Monday 23rd April, at 7:30pm at St James’ Church Centre.

All members of the electoral roll are entitled to attend and participate in this meeting, where we vote for the election of churchwardens and PCC members. This is your opportunity to ask questions and participate in the running of your church community in the Parish of Finchampstead and California.

The content of the information pack for the meeting including the major reports, minutes from last year and agenda can be found below. Reports from PCC committees and Church groups will be on display at the meeting. The Church Centre will be open from 6.45pm to view these reports and also during the Cheese & Wine after the meeting to read and ask questions. The displays will be available in all three churches for a couple of weeks afterwards.

Limited printed copies are being produced, but in order to save the substantial costs of printing all the papers for the over 400 people on the roll we will have only limited spare copies available. Therefore we ask that you please print as much or as little of the paperwork as you would like in preparation for the meeting.

Appointment of Sam Khan and Kate Meads as Youth & Family Workers

We are delighted to announce that the PCC has just approved the above appointment.

Sam and Kate will be employed on a part-time basis and job-share this post.

Many congratulations to both ladies – we could not have hoped for more worthy successors to James.

Green Team Working Parties thanks

Thanks to recent path clearing by the Green Team Working Parties, daffodils can now be viewed in the Lost Liddell Garden.

Please go and take a look. Bluebells to follow, April/May!

Berkshire Womens’ Aid thanks

A Big Thank You to all who so generously donated items for the Berkshire Womens’ Aid.

We delivered two very large car loads and the look on the faces of ladies as they helped unpack them said it all.

They were amazed, delighted, and extremely grateful

Congratulations to Linda!

Huge Congratulations to Linda Atkinson for achieving the RSCM Gold Medal, the highest award possible!

After more than three years of work with the parish, our Youth and Family Worker, James, is stepping down from his post in the New Year.

He’s been offered an exciting opportunity working for a national charity overseeing part of their youth work provision.

It wasn’t an easy decision to make and he’d like to thank the parish for the support, grace and love he’s been showed during his time here.

He hopes to remain an active member of our community.

Gift Sunday thanks

Thank You to everyone who donated items on Gift Sunday, and also to Tesco in Wokingham who were very generous and donated many goods to be taken to the women’s refuge.

Youth Update

This half term has been the biggest we’ve seen in the last 3 years!

Contrast numbers are at record levels; 32 youngsters enjoyed a trip to the newly opened Coral Reef Centre in Bracknell; and last week over 110 people from across the community took part in the first Finchampstead Lantern Parade.

So, to everyone who has helped make all this happen thank you, whether it’s through attending, preparing, lighting bonfires, mulling wine, leading, teaching or simply praying, we couldn’t have done it without you.

If you’d like to get involved in future activities please contact James Lawbuary, our Youth Worker.
