St Eligius Organ Dedication

Today we were delighted to welcome the Mayor of Wokingham Cllr Rob Stanton to St Eligius for a special service to dedicate the new organ. Cllr Stanton joined a congregation that included representatives of the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers, developers of Arborfield Green Crest Nicholson, and members of St Eligius past and present to mark this important day in the life of the church.

In the service, Canon John led tributes to Larry and Rita Levar who spearheaded the campaign to raise money for a new organ and looked forward to the future for the church highlighting the commitment the Diocese of Oxford has made with the Arborfield Green New Communities Minister post that will be based at the church. The service concluded with the cutting of a special cake baked for the occasion.

Our thanks go to Phil Creighton of the Wokingham Paper for the picture.

Letter from Bishop Steven – 4th Sep

Bishop Steven has written to invite every church, chaplaincy, small group and school in the diocese to do something very simple but life changing over the next year.
He is asking the whole Diocese of Oxford to read, study and dwell in the opening words of Jesus in the Sermon on the Mount: the Beatitudes in Matthew 5.1-10

Please take the opportunity to read Bishop Steven’s full letter (in which he explains this initiative in more detail) here.

Matched Funding Appeal

Does anyone in the congregation work for an employer who offers matched funding under its Corporate Social Responsibility programme (Google, Vodaphone, Barclays etc and possibly many more)?

If you are not using this facility elsewhere to support other worthy causes, would you be willing to use it to double up some of the Church fundraising, e.g. the Fete or part of it, or future events if notice has to be given?

I would love to hear from you to explore this more. Carolyn. [email protected]

A huge thank you to Louise & Flemming Westphalen who masterminded the whole event and who, with their small committee, worked tirelessly to make it such a success.

St. James Patronal Festival thanks

A BIG BIG THANK YOU – to everyone who came and supported the St. James Patronal Festival weekend. We especially want to thank Janice and the Choir for such a great concert on Saturday, the concert and buffet added £698 to church funds.

A big thank you to Hugh and his tower team for manning the tower Sunday afternoon, the folks who looked after the church, all the lovely ladies who helped in the kitchen, and all the cake and scone bakers, the ladies who were so creative with the face painting, the young folks who helped with games, everyone who helped on a stall, selling the ice cream and of course the biggest thank you to everyone who came and spent their money.

We are delighted to announce that on Sunday afternoon £1346 was raised – so making a total for the Patronal Festival weekend of £2045.   A wonderful amount, we really couldn’t do it without you and we so much appreciate all your support and help – let’s do it all again next year!
