Why get married in church?Christians believe that marriage between a man and a woman is a gift from God. It is the foundation of a healthy society providing love, support and companionship as well as security for children as they grow up. Getting married in church is a way of recognizing this gift and asking God for his blessing in your lives together. What if I have been married before? In making your vows before God the clear intention is that marriage is for life. However, we understand that sometimes it doesn’t work out. Who can be married at St James’?
Is there any preparation? You will be asked to attend a Marriage Preparation Day shortly before your wedding, to introduce you to the Church of England ceremony, meet our wedding team over lunch, and run through the practicalities of the wedding service. You will also be asked to complete a Banns Application Form if applicable so that we can call your banns at the appropriate time. “A good, well thought out day—really interesting and thought provoking topics. Thank you” – Feedback 2014 “Thank you so much for an enjoyable day – you have made us feel very welcome and we are really looking forward to spending more time here” “The entire day was incredibly helpful and exceeded expectations” – Feedback 2015 How much does it cost? The fees for 2017 are as follows:
If the fees are a problem, we are happy to discuss ways in which they might be reduced. What do I do now?Thank you for considering St James’ Church for your wedding service. The church is open weekdays from 10am til 12noon for you to have a look around. We have lots of different services on Sundays, which you are welcome to attend, to show you how vibrant the church is when full of people.
